PBIS
Calvert Elementary School (CES) is a PBIS school which means we implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We offer tiered behavior supports and interventions based on what students need to be successful in school. Tier 1 includes the universal instruction and supports provided to ALL students. Tiers 2 and 3 offer supplemental, more intensive behavioral supports in addition to Tier 1 for students as needed.
At CES, Tier 1 PBIS implementation is focused on our school-wide behavioral expectations: the 3 Rs – Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn. The 3 Rs are taught, rehearsed and reinforced school-wide and in every classroom. Students earn "Eagle Bucks" for consistently and independently demonstrating our school-wide expectations and procedures. Students use their Eagle Bucks to purchase items and experiences at the CES Eagle Store. At CES we recognize "Soaring Eagles" – those students who go above and beyond in demonstrating the 3 Rs. PBIS includes positive behavior incentives on the bus where students earn Eagle Bucks, pop-up parties and bus miles pizza parties. At CES, PBIS includes attendance incentives to celebrate high attendance rates. CES celebrates our positive school culture with quarterly PBIS celebrations which involve a variety of fun choice activities.
Eagle Character of the Month
- Each month a character trait within the PBIS program guidelines is chosen –Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Respect, Fairness, etc.
- Teachers are asked to choose one student in the class that best exhibits the trait chosen for that month.
- The nominated students get their picture taken and attached to a form with their name and any comments from their teacher.
- The form is proudly displayed in the school hallway for a month.
Students are very excited when they learn they have been chosen as Eagle Character of the Month for their class.
